A routine parking citation turned into a serious criminal matter for a South Beach resident who now faces felony charges after allegedly threatening a city employee and vandalizing his vehicle back in March.
William Roa, 40, was apprehended Tuesday morning at approximately 11 a.m. in the lobby of his South Beach apartment building. He was subsequently booked into the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center early Wednesday morning, according to Miami-Dade corrections records.
The incident dates back to March 5 when Roa reportedly discovered a parking ticket on his motorcycle outside Lost Weekend, a popular bar located on Española Way. According to the arrest report, an enraged Roa proceeded to follow the parking enforcement officer for roughly 20 minutes while allegedly making verbal threats to cause him physical harm. Surveillance footage later captured him approaching the officer’s assigned 2025 Ford Ranger pickup truck and using a sharp metal object to puncture both tires on the driver’s side.
Authorities note that Roa has an extensive criminal background with 14 previous arrests in Miami-Dade County, including charges for carrying a concealed weapon, battery, obstruction of justice, and resisting arrest. Despite this lengthy arrest record, court documents indicate he has never been convicted of a crime in the county.
Roa now faces two third-degree felony charges: aggravated assault on a government employee and criminal mischief with prejudice. A judge set his bond at $3,500 during his Wednesday court appearance.
