Dramatic police body camera footage has been released showing Sunrise Police Department officers in a tense pursuit of a suspected car thief in Broward County on Tuesday morning. The video captures officers with weapons drawn, repeatedly ordering the driver to stop the vehicle.
According to investigators, the vehicle had been reported stolen from the 2900 block of Northwest 60th Avenue. Officers attempted to intercept the suspect as he drove at high speed into an apartment complex located off Northwest 60th Terrace in Sunrise.
The situation escalated when the suspect abandoned the stolen car, which subsequently rolled into a nearby body of water. The individual then attempted to flee the scene on foot, leading officers on a brief chase through the area.
The pursuit ended with officers taking a minor into custody. Authorities have not yet disclosed the identity of the juvenile suspect or specified what charges he may face in connection with the vehicle theft and subsequent attempt to evade police.
