Armed Carjacking Suspect Caught on Camera Pointing Gun at Hotel

Authorities in Broward County are asking for the community’s assistance in identifying a suspect connected to a brazen attempted carjacking that was captured on surveillance video at a Dania Beach hotel. The incident occurred Sunday evening around 8 p.m. near the 400 block of Gulf Stream Way.

According to investigators from the Broward Sheriff’s Office, a woman was loading items into her vehicle’s trunk in the hotel parking lot when two individuals approached her. One of them demanded the victim hand over her car keys. When she refused to comply, the suspect reportedly pulled out a firearm from her waistband and pointed it directly at the victim while repeating the demand.

The quick-thinking victim managed to escape by running into the hotel lobby to seek assistance from staff members. However, the armed suspect followed and was captured on security cameras walking up to the hotel entrance, pointing the weapon at people inside, and exchanging words with them before fleeing on foot toward Griffin Road.

The surveillance footage released by BSO shows the terrifying moments as the victim rushes into the lobby while the armed individual appears in the doorway brandishing the gun. Deputies describe the suspect as wearing a light-colored jacket, black shirt, black shorts, and black slide sandals at the time of the incident.

Anyone who recognizes the individual in the video or has information about this case is encouraged to contact BSO Detective Daniel Cortes at 954-321-4296. Anonymous tips can also be submitted through Broward Crime Stoppers at 954-493-8477.
