A gentle 9-year-old border collie mix named Baby is eagerly waiting to meet his new family at the Humane Society of Broward County in Fort Lauderdale. This sweet senior pup arrived at the shelter as a stray, and despite attempts to contact his previous owner, no one came forward to bring him home.
According to shelter representative Cherie Wachter, Baby was originally adopted from the same facility when he was just a year old. Now at 50 pounds, this well-mannered dog walks beautifully on a leash and would make an ideal companion for anyone seeking a calm and affectionate pet. Wachter emphasized that age is just a number, noting that senior dogs like Baby can still learn plenty of new tricks and bring immense joy to their families.
The shelter is also introducing Tolkien, an adorable 13-week-old British Shorthair kitten who is ready for adoption along with his two brothers. The trio was surrendered after their owner fell ill. Wachter noted that the kittens are currently being treated for ringworm, a common fungal condition that is manageable with proper care. Adopters will receive medication and guidance on keeping the condition under control, including regular handwashing and keeping the kitten separated from other household pets during treatment.
Whether you are looking for a loyal canine companion for leisurely neighborhood strolls or an adorable feline friend to brighten your home, the Humane Society of Broward County has numerous animals waiting for their forever families. Interested adopters can visit the shelter’s website or contact them directly for more information on welcoming Baby, Tolkien, or another deserving pet into their lives.
