He will continue serving as ESPN’s lead NFL commentator while helping Dolphins owner Stephen Ross evaluate candidates.

The role is strictly advisory: Troy Aikman is not a candidate for the general manager position and will not join the Miami Dolphins in any full-time executive role.
Miami has spent recent weeks preparing for the search, which is expected to intensify next week once the regular season concludes. Under NFL rules, teams are prohibited from interviewing executives currently employed by other organizations until the season ends, but the Dolphins have already conducted extensive background research. Interviews are expected to begin shortly after Sunday’s games.

Interim general manager Champ Kelly is expected to be among those considered for the permanent role. Aikman spent his entire 12-year NFL career with the Dallas Cowboys after being selected first overall in the 1989 draft. He led the franchise to three Super Bowl championships in the 1990s and was named Super Bowl XXVII MVP. Known for his leadership, preparation and understanding of the game, Aikman was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2006.
