Kate Middleton appeared during a state banquet at Windsor Castle with the most significant tiara she has ever worn: Queen Victoria’s Oriental Circlet. Her choice was more than a display of elegance, it underscored her growing role within the monarchy. Also highlighted the deep historical symbolism behind one of the crown’s most treasured jewels.

The Princess of Wales attended the banquet alongside Prince William, King Charles III and Queen Camilla to honor German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier’s state visit. For the occasion, she wore a shimmering blue sequin cape gown by Jenny Packham. It as complemented by earrings that once belonged to Queen Elizabeth II and the insignia of the Royal Family Order and the Royal Victorian Order.

The Princess of Wales cauth the night with the Oriental Circlet Tiara, that is considered one of the crown’s most exquisite and important relics. Designed with an Indian-inspired motif featuring lotus flowers and Mughal arches, the piece was originally set with more than 2,600 diamonds and opals.

Its craftsmanship reflects the artistic and cultural influences of the 19th century, making it a standout creation from the Victorian era. Queen Alexandra later replaced the opals with rubies, believing the original stones brought bad luck.

Royal experts emphasized to Fox News the importance of Middleton’s decision to wear a piece historically reserved for reigning queens. “The tiara was a thrilling surprise — it’s the largest and most commanding piece Catherine has ever worn,” royal commentator Amanda Matta told.

Queen Victoria, who reigned from 1837 to 1901, remains one of the most influential monarchs in British history. Her rule oversaw vast industrial, cultural and political change and marked the height of the British Empire.

Married to Prince Albert, she cultivated a deep appreciation for art, science and innovation, values that shaped the monarchy for generations. The Oriental Circlet, crafted under her and Albert’s direction, reflects their shared passion for global aesthetics and craftsmanship.

According to royal experts, Kate Middleton’s fashion choices of the tiara also conveyed a forward-looking message. While Queen Elizabeth II traditionally wore white or cream for state banquets, Kate’s vibrant blue gown suggested a modernized vision for the monarchy.
