After ten years of contributing to Miami’s vibrant art scene, Taylor Cavazos is packing her brushes and heading to Austin, Texas. The artist, who captured the hearts of thousands through her miniature paintings of beloved local establishments, is leaving behind a legacy that has resonated deeply with residents across the 305.
Cavazos gained widespread attention over the past six months with her Mini Miami Series, a collection of tiny canvas paintings transformed into magnets depicting iconic Miami storefronts and landmarks. The project began when she learned that Gramps, a popular Wynwood bar, was closing its doors. Determined to preserve its memory, she painted the venue’s distinctive orange walls and front patio on a small canvas, unknowingly launching what would become a viral sensation across social media.
The collection has grown to include more than 75 miniature works, with approximately 30 featuring South Florida locations. Among the painted establishments are Panther Coffee in Wynwood, Monty’s in Coconut Grove, Books and Books in Coral Gables, and El Bagel on Biscayne Boulevard. The series also extends beyond Miami to include cultural landmarks like the Bonnet House Museum and Garden and the Norton Museum of Art in West Palm Beach.
Beyond her miniature masterpieces, Cavazos has made significant contributions to the local community. Her work has been showcased at prestigious venues including Wynwood Walls and the Center for Social Change. She has also dedicated time to leading intergenerational art workshops and supporting ocean conservation initiatives through donated artwork. As she prepares for her new chapter in Texas, the artist remains hopeful that her journey will eventually bring her back to the Miami spots that have shaped her creative path.
