The ABB FIA Formula E World Championship continues its mission to accelerate the adoption of zero-emission vehicles in urban environments through world-class street racing. To maintain competitive balance and control costs, all teams utilize a standardized chassis and uniform aerodynamics, focusing technical development primarily on the electric powertrain (motor and inverter).

From Gen3 Consolidation to the Gen3 Evo Revolution

Starting with the 2022/23 season, the Gen3 model marked a milestone by replacing the FE18 Spark chassis. However, the true breakthrough arrived with the recently introduced Gen3 Evo. This vehicle has shattered previous records:
  • Acceleration: It can sprint from 0 to 100 km/h (0-60 mph) in just 1.82 seconds, outperforming even current Formula 1 cars in off-the-line speed.
  • Top Speed: It reaches 322 km/h (200 mph), a massive leap from the 225 km/h seen in the series’ early years.
  • Efficiency: Over 40% of the energy used during a race is produced via regenerative braking, with a recovery capacity of 600 kW.

The Future: The Power of Gen4

The FIA has recently unveiled the Gen4 car, the most sophisticated and powerful electric single-seater in history. Designed to debut in the 2026/27 season, this vehicle represents an unprecedented technological jump:
  • Power Output: It will feature a peak power of up to 600 kW (815 hp).
  • Regeneration: Regenerative braking capacity will increase to 700 kW.
  • All-Wheel Drive: It will fully integrate AWD, optimizing grip and performance on tight city circuits.

Beyond the Track: The Alejandro Agag Impact

The electric mobility ecosystem continues to expand under the leadership of figures like Alejandro Agag, who also pioneered the UIM E1 World Electric Powerboat Series. This is the world’s first electric powerboat championship, utilizing hydrofoil technology to lift the boats above the water, drastically reducing drag and maximizing energy efficiency.
Formula E is more than a racing series; it is a competitive laboratory where electric propulsion technology is perfected at extreme speeds for eventual application in the consumer vehicles of tomorrow.
