History of the festival
The Miami Film Festival first was launched in February 1984 under the guidance of the Film Society of Miami. Its founders were Nat Chediak and Steven Bowles. Since its inaugural event on February 3, 1984, the festival has taken place in various theaters across the greater Miami region.
Organized by the non-profit Film Society of Miami, Inc., the festival has consistently showcased a wide range of films from both developing and internationally recognized filmmakers, serving Miamiâs diverse, cosmopolitan community.
Over the years, the festival has grown significantly and is now regarded as one of the foremost film festivals globally. Annually, it draws more than 45,000 attendees who come to experience a wide selection of films. The festival highlights the work of emerging talents as well as established directors, providing a platform for films produced not only internationally but also locally.
