The Charleys Philly Steaks chain was forced to close in Miami, Florida, after a customer discovered cockroaches in their food. The situation went viral and prompted authorities to shut down the restaurant with immediate effect.

The Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation arrived at the establishment, located in South Florida’s Broward Mall in Plantation. It analyzed the situation and decided to shut down the restaurant.

Their ruling came after the inspection found not only cockroaches in the food, but also several insects in the premises. The presence of the bugs endangered the health and well-being of people, making it necessary to suspend the restaurant’s operations.

This situation led the fast food chain to take urgent action against the presence of insects. They carried out fumigation to eradicate all the bugs and be able to reopen their doors. They achieved this on Friday, when they passed the health inspection.

Thanks to this, they were able to reopen their doors over the weekend, but the report on the cockroach infestation detected at the Charleys Philly Steaks establishment in Florida was also released.

The report emphasized the presence of cockroaches in food, but also identified a total of five other violations. These insects were found in different parts of the establishment. It was not only in the areas where food is produced, but also in the office and administrative areas.

Added to this were other flaws within the facilities, such as a lack of basic personal hygiene supplies. Among these was a lack of paper towels for drying hands; on top of that, the hand dryer was not working.

The presence of cockroaches in restaurants in Miami, Florida, has become a recurring problem that is raising health alerts in one of the United States’ gastronomic and tourist capitals.

Inspection records from the Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation show that establishments of all levels are constantly facing active infestations, especially in kitchens, storage areas, and food preparation areas.

The high temperatures and humidity of South Florida create an environment conducive to the proliferation of these pests, increasing the challenge for the restaurant industry.

Health authorities reiterate that the presence of cockroaches poses a risk to public health, as they can contaminate food and surfaces, as well as being an indication of failures in cleaning and pest control protocols.
