Home Health Aide Arrested for Stealing Jewelry From Elderly Patient

A home healthcare worker from Sunrise is behind bars after authorities arrested her on July 22, 2026, in connection with the theft of thousands of dollars worth of jewelry from an elderly woman she was entrusted to care for in Broward County. The arrest came nearly a year after the victim’s family first reported the missing valuables, and tragically, the elderly woman passed away before justice could be served.

According to the Broward Sheriff’s Office, 60-year-old Christine Rolle was taken into custody on Tuesday and now faces serious felony charges including grand theft larceny, fraud, exploitation of an elderly person, and dealing in stolen property. The case highlights the vulnerability of senior citizens who depend on caregivers for their daily needs.

A Daughter’s Discovery Leads to Investigation

The investigation began on September 18, 2025, when the victim’s daughter noticed that several pieces of valuable jewelry had vanished from her mother’s residence. As someone who had regular access to her mother’s belongings, Rolle quickly became the primary suspect. Her daily responsibilities included bathing and dressing the elderly woman, and she frequently handled the victim’s jewelry collection at the patient’s request.

The stolen items represented a significant financial loss for the family, with the total value estimated at nearly $17,000. The missing pieces included:

  • A white gold diamond and ruby necklace valued at $3,850
  • A diamond heart bracelet worth $3,000
  • A yellow gold Bengal bracelet featuring rubies and opals, valued at $4,000
  • A gold and diamond bracelet with heart links worth $3,000
  • A gold chain with a V-shaped charm valued at $1,000
  • A yellow gold H-shaped diamond ring worth $2,000

When confronted by the victim’s daughter in September and October of 2025, Rolle reportedly denied any involvement in the theft. However, investigators would eventually uncover evidence that told a different story.

Pawn Shop Records Expose the Truth

Initially, detectives encountered a dead end when searching local pawn shop databases for transactions linked to Rolle. However, persistence paid off when a subsequent database search revealed a lengthy history of the healthcare aide pawning various items. More importantly, several of those pawned items matched the exact descriptions of the jewelry reported stolen from the elderly victim.

Authorities confirmed that the stolen jewelry had been pawned at Richie’s Pawn Shop in Tamarac, providing investigators with the crucial evidence needed to make an arrest.

The discovery of these pawn transactions proved to be the breakthrough that authorities needed to move forward with charges against Rolle. The evidence painted a clear picture of a caregiver who had allegedly betrayed the trust placed in her by a vulnerable elderly patient and her family.

Victim Passes Away During Investigation

In a heartbreaking turn of events, the elderly victim died while the investigation was still ongoing. However, her daughter, who had obtained power of attorney over her mother prior to her death, expressed her determination to see the case through to its conclusion. She informed detectives that she wished to pursue charges against Rolle on behalf of her deceased mother.

This case serves as a sobering reminder of the importance of thoroughly vetting caregivers and maintaining vigilance when entrusting loved ones to the care of others. Elder abuse and exploitation remain significant concerns in South Florida, where a large population of senior citizens relies on home healthcare services.

Suspect Held on Bond

As of the afternoon following her arrest, Rolle remained in custody at the Broward County Main Jail. Her bond has been set at $12,500. The charges she faces carry significant potential penalties, particularly the exploitation of an elderly person charge, which Florida law treats as a serious offense.

The arrest report did not indicate whether any of the stolen jewelry was successfully recovered. Authorities continue to investigate the matter, and additional charges could potentially be filed as the case progresses through the court system.
